Grooming is not only about helping to keep your cat's coat in beautiful condition, it's also an important part of cat's social ritual. Your cat will greatly appreciate the attention you give it and will probably try to lick you to return the favour!
Groom on a regular basis and at least daily for long haired cats using a cat brush or flea comb.
Brushing your cat not only removes loose fur, that can be swallowed and turn to furballs, but also improves circulation and coat condition. Furballs are formed in the cat's stomach from swallowing the hair it picks up with its tongue when grooming itself. These hairballs can sometimes cause a blockage in your cat's stomach.
Older cats can be wiped with a moist cloth around the ears and face. If necessary, your cat's nails can be trimmed once a month, ask your local vet clinic to show you how. Many cats will tolerate bathing using a shower attachment in a sink. Keep the water warm and make sure the water can run down the drain rather than submerging your cat. Most cats keep themselves immaculate without bathing so it's not a necessary part of grooming!
