Generally, cats do not make very good car companions. Whenever you are transporting your cat, it should be placed in a sturdy travel cage, which has plenty of newspaper or a towel in the bottom. Your cat may feel more comfortable if the cage is covered with a light cloth and make sure to use the seatbelt to secure the cage in the seat.

If you are going away on holidays, the best advice is to book your cat into a cat hotel or cattery where your feline friend will be well cared for while you are away. If you are travelling during peak holiday periods, it may be a good idea to book early as these facilities are usually in high demand during these times.
When you drop your cat off, remember to take your cat's vaccination details with you. A reputable cattery will want to ensure that your cat's vaccinations are all up-to-date and can't pass any nasties on to the other feline residents. In case your pet needs emergency care while you are away, leave your vet's name and telephone number and a number where you can be contacted in case of emergencies. Another important thing to remember is to take one of your cat’s favourite toys or blankets along, this way your cat will have something familiar to snuggle up to while you’re away.

As an alternative to a cattery, your friends could also be an option. A responsible friend or neighbour will need to visit at least twice a day to provide fresh food, water and maybe a pat or two!

That way you can go away and relax, safe in the knowledge your feline friend is in good hands and anticipating your return.
