Kittens – a lifelong commitment & rewardPlease think carefully about this decision as it represents a long-term commitment and kittens rapidly grow and mature to become adult cats.If you are planning on bringing a kitten home, here are a few important thoughts that we recommend before making such a big commitment: 1. Please do find out whether you and your family actually want to commit to owning a cat. Pet ownership brings with it great long term rewards and commitment – to feed, care for and house the new family member. 2. Please make sure that you and your family understand how to look after your new kitten. Your local Veterinarian is a great source of information and there are many good websites and books about kitten and cat care. See below for some information for starters.3. Responsible ownership of pets such as kittens and cats means planning for the expenses that are incurred when you decide to get a pet: food, veterinary bills, council registration, microchipping and boarding expenses for when you go on holidays. These expenses can add up and it is important before committing to pet ownership that you budget to meet such expenses.
4. Animal shelters can be an excellent place to start looking for the ideal new family kitten or adult cat. Often in such cases, the animal will have had a Veterinary health assessment and may be provided desexed and vaccinated. By seeking to provide a kitten or cat from an animal shelter with a new home, you’re providing a second chance for some of the less fortunate companion animals that make up our community.
