The nutrients cats need and why

When you walk around your local supermarket, do you check those nutritional labels before you buy? How about when you're buying for your cat? Maybe you don't, but the fact is your little four legged friend needs a healthy, balanced diet just as much as you do. The problem is, she can't get it for herself.

Vitamins for growth

Your cat needs vitamins for all sorts of important bodily functions. They help her vision, bone growth and metabolism. Virtually every single action in her body requires the assistance of vitamins. Each one has its own role to play. For example, if your cat cuts a paw, one vitamin will help to stop the bleeding and another will help to repair the skin.

Good sources of vitamins in cat foods include liver, kidneys, yeast and grains.  All of which can be found in Whiskas® Adult food in exactly the right amounts.

Minerals for bones

Your cat needs a good supply of minerals to make sure she has strong teeth and bones, and for an efficient metabolism. Make sure she doesn't get too much though, as minerals can be difficult to absorb. Fortunately, Whiskas® provides exactly the right amount of all the essential minerals.

The major minerals she needs are calcium, phosphorus, potassium, sodium chloride, magnesium. She also needs trace elements such as iron, copper, manganese, zinc and selenium. Good sources of minerals in cat foods include fish, meat, liver and cereals. If you feed your cat a balanced, prepared adult food like Whiskas®, there’s no need to give her any mineral supplements.

Essential fatty acids for health

Your cat needs essential fatty acids to maintain the health of her skin, coat, reproductive system and metabolism.

Fats and essential fatty acids (major components of fats) are a major source of energy and make her meals taste great. Fats also transport vitamins A, D, E and K around the body.

Good sources of fats and essential fatty acids in cat foods include animal fats and vegetable oils.

Carbohydrates and fibre for digestion

Carbohydrate in the diet is used as an energy source or a source of dietary fibre. Fibre is a type of carbohydrate that can support good digestion and proper stool consistency. Grains such as rice, corn and wheat are good sources of carbohydrates and fibre in cat foods.

Protein for strength

Your cat needs protein for healthy growth and muscle tone. Proteins are found in most living tissue, like hair, skin, nails and muscles. There are thousands of different proteins in your cat's body, and they all perform different functions. Proteins provide the essential amino acids that cats require to stay fit and healthy.

You'll find lots and lots of protein in cat foods with meat, eggs, fish, grains, and yeast.

You'll be pleased to hear that if you feed her Whiskas® meals, she'll get a perfectly balanced diet, with all the nutrients she needs to keep her happy and healthy.
