My 17 yr old chinchilla has gone blind within a week, he had a episode 2 weeks ago where he was falling over and i looked like he had a little stoke. I took him to the vet and he said it was just arthritis?? but a week later this has happened.... any ideas anyone??

please see another vet, this does not sound like arthritis at all.

You must see another vet. This happened to my cat last month. It is caused by high blood pressure which is destructive to kidney function. The eyesight can be restored if you act quickly. Good luck!

My 16 year old cat went blind suddenly. My vet said she had detached retinas due to high blood pressure brought on by hyperthyroidism. Apparently a common disease in ageing female cats who eat fish variety foods. See your vet as soon as possible.
