Is it safe to give cats normal milk our do you have to give them the one especially formulated for cats?

Normal milk contains lactose, which is not good for cats, as I found out. Even very watered down milk affects them, giving my Jack diarrohea(sp?). He has never had milk before, but in his old age he has decided he wants a 'cuppa' when I have one, so have been giving him Whiskas Plus milk which fixed his problem.

It is true that "normal" milk can give cats diarrhea but not every cat suffers from it. I have found that some of my cats really enjoy some milk. Some won't go near it, preferring water anyway. While Whiskas milk is tolerated well, buying another specialised product for cats is not only costly, it is annoying! My cats don't seem to like hi-lo milk either. None of my cats suffer from diarrhea. Cats are pretty good for the most part at not eating/drinking things that don't agree with them. Just always have fresh water for them as well as any milk product.
Cheese is also meant to have the same effect but many cats love it and even makes its way into many cat foods.

My Kostyer is 19 years old, she drinks UHT full cream milk, as she tends to get dehydrated at times, it is better that she drinks something rather than nothing at all. I use skim milk, put that in her dish and she gets her nose about 1 cm from it and knows that it is skim, won't touch it.

I only ever give my cats whiskas milk for cats. The normal milk is not very good for cat and dogs and therefore should not be given to them.

My cat Tigger has suddenly started to crave milk. She is 13 years old and had wanted milk once in a while before but just recently wants milk every day sometimes more. I thought there might be something that is wrong with her and milk makes her feel better, like it can with humans. Any thoughts?

Maybe tigger is craving some fat. If you aren't having any problems with Tigger and the milk, why stop?
Some say eggs are bad for cats (not sure why) but several of my cats like a raw egg every so often. I just use one raw egg lightly beaten just to lighten the white a bit and break up the yolk, not as much as if you were scrambling one though. If you can't see a problem with eggs, and want to get away from the milk, you could try an egg instead of the milk.
Has Tigger reduced her water in-take? Could your water be tainted? Or even the bowl itself? Is drinking the milk an alternative perhaps?
Are there other changes? Or have you changed biscuits? Some biscuits have more fat in than others, just like our food.

my tigger cat has decided in the last couple months he really craves milk couple times a day. i let him have it, he's old and i guess i figure with the way he looks and acts he doesn't have a lot of time left so why deprive him if it makes him happy.

I am lactose intolerant so I drink milk that has an enzyme to break down the lactose in it. It's full cream and just slightly sweeter then regular milk. So I give my Diezel this and he loves it! Every time I have a coffee, god help me if he doesn't get any! It's basically the same as the whiskas, just it's designed for humans and so much cheaper! You can get it from almost every supermarket in the long life milk section
