About our Australian-made WHISKAS® pouches

In June, Mars opened a new, state-of-the-art cat food pouch factory in Wodonga, Victoria - bringing production of your cat's favourite wet pouches home to Australia. The new factory brought 67+ new jobs to the local community and 100 additional indirect roles across the region.

Since opening, we've been busy. The first pouches are now rolling onto shelves, starting with our Mixed Favourites In Jelly and Chicken Favourites In Jelly, with the rest of our wet pouches soon to follow.

New and improved packaging

We've also given our pouches a fresh, new look to make shopping our products even easier. And if you're wondering how to spot the new Australian-made pouches, simply look for the Australian Made badge on the front of the pack.

How to transition your cat's diet

Every cat is unique, and some may adapt to new food quicker whilst others may be a bit slower to settle into something new. Start by mixing a small amount of the new pouches with your cat’s current food and gradually increase the amount over 7–10 days, so your cat has time to adjust at their own pace.

What has happened across the WHISKAS® range?

We’ve made the exciting decision across the WHISKAS® wet pouch range to bring production to Australia. With cats and pet parents at the heart of this decision, we remain focused on delivering the quality and great taste your cat knows and loves.

Producing locally also helps us reduce our environmental impact by shortening supply chains and cutting down on transport emissions. It’s a step forward for your cat, for you, and the planet.

When is the change happening?

From November 2026, you’ll start seeing ‘Australian-made’ products in store, starting with the WHISKAS® in Jelly range.

The rest of the WHISKAS® wet pouch products will follow shortly after, as we continue to transition the entire range to local production over time.

Availability may vary between retailers and locations as products transition through stores.

Have you changed the recipe? Are the ingredients the same?

The core recipes have had adjustments to take in to account the ingredient availability in Australia. While you may notice a slight change in the product appearance, rest assured, any changes are minimal, and we are continuing to use high-quality ingredients to deliver the taste and nutrition cats love.

My cat is refusing their usual WHISKAS® food. What should I do? 

Some cats take time to adjust to a change in recipe, aroma, texture or appearance. We recommend gradually transitioning between food over several days where possible. This information can also be found on our packaging. If your cat continues refusing food or you have concerns about their health, please consult your veterinarian.

Days 1–2: 75% Old Food + 25% New Food

Days 3–4: 50% Old Food + 50% New Food

Days 5–6: 25% Old Food + 75% New Food

Day 7 onwards: 100% New Food

Have you changed the nutritional benefits of WHISKAS® recipes? 

The recipes continue to provide complete and balanced nutrition for cats. While some ingredients have been adjusted to support local production, nutritional standards remain aligned with our formulation objectives.

Why does the nutritional panel look different?

While the nutritional panel may look a little different, rest assured there is no change to the nutritional benefit your cat receives. The update simply reflects our alignment with new Australian meat labelling standards. The recipes remain 100% complete and balanced, delivering the same high-quality nutrition your cat needs and loves.

Why does the product look different? 

As production moves to Australia, some locally sourced ingredients and manufacturing processes may result in minor differences in colour, texture or aroma. These differences do not affect the quality, safety or nutritional value of the product

What changes have been made to the recipes?

As production has moved to Australia, we are now sourcing our meats from Australia and New Zealand. As a result, some recipes have been slightly updated to support this transition, while continuing to deliver the great taste and complete and balanced nutrition your cat loves.

Changes to Beef Favourites in Jelly & Gravy: The variety previously labelled "with Beef & Venison Flavour" is now "with Beef & Veal Flavour."

Why does the ingredients list look different?

The Pet Food Industry Association of Australia (PFIAA) has updated its pet food labelling guidelines. To comply with these requirements, we have updated the way ingredients are listed on all of our Australian-made pouches.

While the ingredient list may look different, these updates are primarily to align with the new labelling requirements.

Has the feeding guide changed? 

No. The move to Australian production has not changed our feeding recommendations. Please refer to the feeding guide on the back of the pack or visit our website for the most up-to-date feeding recommendations.

As with any change in diet, some cats may benefit from a gradual transition. We recommend gradually introducing the updated product over 7-10 days by mixing increasing amounts of the new food with your cat's current food.

Why have you changed the packaging of the WHISKAS® Wet Pouch range? 

The packaging has been updated to improve the shopping experience and make it easier for pet parents to find the right product for their cat. It also reflects the move to Australian production and updated on-pack information.

Is the WHISKAS® pouch packaging recyclable? 

Mars continues to explore packaging solutions that balance product safety, quality and sustainability.

Have you reduced the size of WHISKAS® Pouches? 

We have made no changes to the pouch pack sizes or weight.

Is there going to be old and new packaging on shelf at the same time? 

Yes, as we transition through to the new product you may find both recipes on shelf.

However, the speed to which products sell in various stores can slightly differ. By having old and new product on shelf at the same time, we provide pet parents the time they need to gradually transition their cats to the new recipe, following the transition guide available on the pack.
